As a former Deputy District Attorney working in the juvenile courts, I understand the issues and challenges related to the justice system. That is why I am supported by the Fresno County Deputy Sheriff's Association, Former Sheriff Hal McKinney, District Attorney Ed Hunt, the Fresno County Prosecutors' Association, the North Central Firefighters Association, and others interested in making Fresno County a safer, more secure community. I believe it is more cost-effective to attack crime on the front end. It costs less to provide good education and adequate, constructive after-school programs to keep kids out of trouble than it does to let them drift into crime and then punish them for it. Youth centers cost less than jails, and this kind of experience produces better citizens. Adult crime, too, is reduced when people have hope. This means jobs for more workers, and job training to develop the skills needed in these jobs. When crime is committed, however, punishment should be swift and sure. That is why I will do everything I can to assure that we have enough police and courts and judges to handle our caseload. Public safety is a high priority for me! |
