Yvonne Terrell Girard, Congressional Candidate for District 41

Bio I was born on an Air Force base in Novato, California, before moving to France for four years, one of nine children. My father was a career military man, and we moved every four years. We spent eight years in Europe, before settling in Austin, Texas, where I completed my schooling. I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelor's in Political Science, while serving as student body president, and Vice President of the CSULA Foundation Board of Trustees. After college I volunteered on Mayor Bradley's gubernatorial campaign while waiting to start a management training course. The campaign asked me to stay, so I delayed my management training until after the campaign ended. I completed Carter Hawley-Hale's Executive Management Training Program, and I became a Manager for The Broadway Stores, Inc. During my tenure at The Broadway, I enlisted in the US Air Force, fulfilling a dream of mine to serve in the military. Upon returning from the USAF, I was hired away from The Broadway Stores, Inc., by Target Stores, who was moving into Southern California and needed managers. I worked for Target, eventually helping to open the Temecula Store. I was later hired by the Los Angeles Municipal Court. During which I also served in the Air National Guard. I completed my time in the Air National Guard and became a Family Readiness and Support Volunteer, assisting families with deployments. I was awarded the California Civilian Achievement Medal for assisting military members deploy to Iraq from March Air Reserve Base, and their families after the events of 9/11. I have graduate work in General Administration, a combination of Public and Business Administration from the University of Maryland, European Division, and Webster's University in Colorado. My husband of 26 years, and I met in the Air Force. He is currently a Lieutenant Colonel in the California Air National Guard, 163rd Reconnaissance Wing, leaving his position of Commander of Security Forces after 12 years this year to become the Inspector General for the Wing. He is also a Lieutenant in the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. We have three sons, who are all Eagle Scouts, and in college. Our oldest is a licensed minister, and the younger two are attending Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, studying to become ministers and teachers. Our nephew lives with us, as well as our "informally adopted daughter". We have been, through this year, a Scouting family, having volunteered in Boy Scouts for over 15 years. I became a Republican after marrying a Republican, and found I was a Republican all along, I just did not know it.
