State Propositions, Hot Issues, & Polling Place Directions

STATE PROPOSITIONS
Over $290 million has been expended to woo voters to vote one way or another on the propositions. Find out who contributed, how much was spent and which proposition garnered the biggest war chest for the statewide special election. Click on Campaign Finance Information on Smart Voter's Proposition pages.

HOT LOCAL ISSUES WE'RE WATCHING
The eight statewide ballot measures have garnered major press coverage. At the same time, however, issues 'closer to home' are clamoring for attention in many counties, cities, school districts, and special districts. Smart Voter assures the accessibility of information on measures such as these:

  • Sonoma County - Measure M. Genetically Engineered Organism Nuisance Abatement Ordinance.

Mendocino County's success (March 2004) in banning biotech crops has sparked activists in other counties to gather signatures to put this issue to voters.
  • Los Angeles County - Measure J & Measure K.

Two 'advisory vote only' measures give some high desert residents a choice of forming the Proposed Antelope Valley Flood Control District or annexing to the existing L.A. County Flood Control District.

  • Los Angeles Unified School District - Measure Y.

Asks for voter approval for issuance of nearly $4 Billion, yes, that's Billion, in school bonds for repair and construction.

  • Santa Clara County Cupertino Measures A, B, and C.

Restrictions on housing density, building heights and set back lines. Voters will decide on these contentious growth issues that have divided their community.

It's easy to track local issues. Just enter “ca” in the “Voting Information” zip code lookup to find the list of California counties or go to http://smartvoter.org/ca/. Click on the name of the county, then “Local Measures.”
