It is critical that there is increased communication between the developers and the residents to insure that any proposed project is a fit for Hamilton and Novato. In early 2015, a sports park proposal that included sport and recreational facilities, as well as a community park was submitted to City staff for consideration. This initial concept did not meet the desires of Hamilton residents, nor fit with the character of its community. The plan is currently being updated to reflect the feedback received from the residents. An updated submission is anticipated in November 2015. In talking with residents throughout Novato and in particular Hamilton, Marin Valley Mobile Country Club and Los Robles Mobile Home Park, I have heard great concern regarding many aspects of the proposed project. Key areas of concern voiced to me include lighting, noise, commercial use, alcohol service, environmental impact and traffic. I am a resident of the Newport subdivision in Hamilton, which is one of the two subdivisions adjacent to the new development. I am highly aware of this potential project and am monitoring it closely. It will be important to me that the areas of concern voiced by residents are addressed and that the nature of the entire project fit into the community of Hamilton. Resident support will be a key measure of this. It is critical that there is increased communication between the developers and the residents to insure that any proposed project is a fit for Hamilton and Novato. There are many steps that any development project must pass through including reviews by the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Planning Commission. Environmental Impact studies and traffic studies are also mandatory. The entire process can take many years. If all these steps are satisfactorily completed, the project will come to the City Council for a decision. It is imperative that candidates for City Council do not pre-judge a project so that they do not jeopardize their participation in the decision making process, when and if it comes before the Council. As a Hamilton resident and council candidate, I believe it is unfair to pre-judge this project given its current status. This is an important issue for Novato and I look forward to continuing the conversation and process with Novato's leaders and residents. |
