Council Member; City of Redondo Beach; District 3

I love Redondo Beach and have served our community as a City Commissioner (Harbor, Recreation & Parks, and Youth), TEDxRedondoBeach organizer and curator, Vice President of the North Redondo Beach Business Association, Blue Zones Ambassador, Chairperson of the Redondo Beach Young Professionals and Chamber of Commerce Board Member.

I have been interested in civil service since High School. As a Junior, I was fortunate to attend the week-long American Legion's Jersey Boys State program. It instilled a belief in civic duty and the importance of local, county and state government on our daily lives. I spent the next 15 years volunteering for ALJBS because I wanted to motivate others to make a difference in their communities. My service in Redondo Beach is largely inspired by these early experiences. I am more committed than ever to the importance of participating in our local government.

Our city faces complex issues with promising opportunities that will impact our neighborhoods, families, businesses, and schools for decades. I plan to bring an independent, creative and representative voice to the Redondo Beach City Council. I will be open-minded, diligent, and willing to think outside-of-the-box. I want to ensure our city becomes a municipal model for public safety, transparency, efficiency, responsiveness and sustainability in the 21st century.

I want to strengthen Redondo's economic base by supporting our local business owners and attracting new businesses and jobs that can help enhance city infrastructure, services and facilities. This will improve our quality of life, ensure our schools remain top-rated, safeguard our public safety, and foster a vibrant community that we all can be proud of.

PUBLIC SAFETY

Attract & Retain Quality Police / Fire Candidates As your City Council representative, I look forward to working with the City Staff and the Unions to ensure our First Responders are treated with respect and fairness as they protect and serve our community.

Provide All Necessary and Required Resources Ensure budget priorities reflect the needs of our community, including new and upgraded equipment, expanding Neighborhood Watch programs and CERT readiness.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Ensure 21st Century Best Practices Our sewers, power lines, water pipes and other facilities need to be inspected and upgraded. I support budget initiatives that make practical, long-term sense. We can learn from other communities on how to solve these issues

Promote Sustainable, Environmentally Responsible Practices for Any Development A great example is the Green Idea House on Prospect Ave. in Hermosa Beach. Our neighbor created a Net Zero Energy and Zero Carbon home for less cost than standard construction. We can balance responsibility with practical economical results. I support an overall commitment to a sustainable Redondo Beach, with an emphasis on clean air, clean water, clean beaches and clean streets. I believe that sustainable development is one that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs

Maintain Streets and Sidewalks Potholes or broken sidewalks are just some of the issues I hear when meeting with neighbors. Let's make sure there is an efficient process to empower residents to initiate, address and correct concerns with Public Works.

Addressing Parking or Traffic Issues Parking, traffic and speeding in our neighborhoods requires better solutions and ways for the community to effectuate concerns to city staff. Through Complete or Living streets models and initiatives we can help Redondo address concerns and find new positive impactful solutions. Here are some fact sheets created by the AARP.

Creating a South Bay Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) One of the most effective tools to help us transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in California is Community Choice Aggregation (CCA). That's why I support the efforts of South Bay Clean Power to have Redondo Beach join other South Bay communities and pool our energy needs in a CCA. Sonoma Clean Power and Marin Clean Energy have done this in Northern California and these nonprofit operations deliver lower rates to customers, significantly more renewable energy as part of the mix, and generate local jobs and community investments. They offer customers the option to choose 100% renewable energy. And they also put control of energy rates, energy procurement and rules for solar, electric cars and energy efficiency incentives in the hands of local South Bay representatives.

Support for more Electric Vehicle Charging Stations This will give our residents and visitors the infrastructure that attracts more zero emission vehicle use in our city.

QUALITY OF LIFE

Upgrading Parks, Parkettes & Promoting Open Space I started a petition this past year to address the Ensenada Parkette, but the reality is that many of our parkettes or parks could use some extra attention. I want to leverage community support to target funds and projects that upgrade our children's playgrounds and see what possibilities we may in the future have to plan or create more open space in our densely packed neighborhoods.

Youth & Senior Services District 3 does not have a community center for our many seniors or youths. I want to find ways to promote and increase Beach City Transit routes or "share a ride" programs to help our residents gain free or affordable access to the Perry Park or Veterans Park Senior Centers, and the Perry Park Youth Center. Ideally we can start planning and saving for an eventual Community Center at Dominguez Park.

Promote an Artesia Blvd. "Living Streets" Initiative I support the City's current strategic plan to create a Business Improvement District for Artesia and Aviation Blvds. Using a Living Streets model can help create a true "Main Street" destination for our city's real economic engine and clean up/upgrade this business area.

Continue to incorporate the Blue Zones Project Initiative As a Blue Zones Ambassador, I've seen firsthand how making small healthy choices makes a big difference. Expand Zumba classes, Walking Moais and Walking School Bus + every bit helps our community!

Master Bike Plan Implementation I support responsible bike path creation and expansion. I support the South Bay Bicycle Coalition and the Beach Cities Health District's Blue Zones program to get the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan implemented. The plan calls for increasing bicycle access, connectivity and safety for residents and visitors to Redondo Beach. This will help reduce traffic congestion, parking issues, local air pollution levels, and greenhouse gas emissions while helping to fight obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Critical to the plan are adult and child bicycle classes, training and eduction programs designed to have the rules of the road practiced by bicyclists and motorists alike.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Harbor Area Revitalization Serving on the Redondo Beach Harbor Commission, I've seen firsthand how responsible revitalization can meet our collective needs. I support a careful, well-planned effort to upgrade and expand our Harbor and surrounding areas.

Artesia Corridor Revitalization Through my work with the North Redondo Beach Business Association (NRBBA), I support the local businesses and work with the City to responsibly upgrade this business district. Programs include graffiti abatement, upgraded signage, and outreach programs that engage the businesses to better serve our local needs. (See above about creating a BID.)

Encourage Galleria Mall Upgrades and Quality Nordstrom replacement The Galleria is upgrading and preparing for a new large store tenant. As your City Council member, I'll ensure the Galleria continues to be a "good neighbor," promotes safety and provides an attractive, respected shopping experience.

Promoting a Living Streets Initiative I believe we need to begin discussing and implementing solutions for our business corridors, highly trafficked streets and neighborhoods to help make our community even more walkable, bike-able, livable. Through Complete or Living streets models and initiatives we can help Redondo address concerns and find new positive impactful solutions. Here are some fact sheets created by the AARP.

Measure B + Removing the Power Plant I support Measure B because it moves our City forward towards eliminating the power plant and industrial site use for good. This measure does not lock us into a position or project, but simply re-zones this area to enable AES to sell their property. It's a step in the right direction and will finally allow us to help create a situation that will work for both the property owners and the residents. Like many of you, I am concerned about the initial concept plan of a potential 600 new private residences with traffic and school implications. I believe we can work to ensure those numbers come down while also finding economically viable solutions for the property owner that honors the unique location and works cohesively with our Harbor revitalization.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Identify Inefficiencies & Cut Waste As your City Council member, I'll focus on working with city staff to find more and newer efficient solutions that ensure we get our city reserves up to appropriate levels and find better ways to fund projects the residents count on for their quality of life.

Promote Economic Sustainability By serving as a City Commissioner, a former Redondo Chamber of Commerce Board Member, and other Civic entities, I've experienced many examples of responsible, practical balance between quality of life and business. Our City's budget and tax base has to address our needs and priorities. As your City Council member, I look forward to working with you to find that appropriate balance
