City College of San Francisco has existed for close to 80 years, serving hundreds of thousands of students to reach their educational and career goals. I believe that City College is an essential part of what makes San Francisco great and helps all communities to live a high quality of life and thrive. As a community college alumna and first generation university graduate raised by blue collar parents, I understand why saving City College is critical for many individuals and families who are looking for a brighter future for themselves or their children. I entered the community college system as a D & F high school student dealing with academic challenges that counselors and administrators often wrote off as not willing to apply myself. It was because critical second-chance student service, like EOPS, that I was able to realize my full potential, becoming an A & B student, a student leader, and went on to become a dedicated leader and trusted advocate with over 20 years of neighborhood leadership and civic engagement as well as broad experience supporting San Francisco's diverse communities. My experience is a living testament to how the community college system changes lives. I am deeply committed to preserving City College's ability to provide an accessible and affordable education for its diverse student population. I`m running for the board because I can play an important role in making sure that future generations could know an affordable and accessible pathway to a brighter future . . . but only if the doors to City College can stay open. |
