Why I am voting for Patrick DeanLa Mesa is a great little city, and I am supporting Patrick Dean for City Council to make it even better. Patrick is honest, humble and a true public servant with no special interests. His desire to hold public office stems from a genuine desire to improve our local environment and make smart planning choices for the future. Patrick serves as a commissioner on the La Mesa Community Services committee, where he has gained valuable insight on how to improve recreational opportunities for our elderly and youth. Patrick volunteers as a cook for the La Mesa First United Methodist Church Interfaith Shelter, and is chef for the San Diego Outreach Project annual fundraiser. Patrick consistently advocated for legal backyard hens and provided input that shaped the recently passed city ordinance. Patrick supports installing solar panels on city properties, thus decreasing utility expenses and opening up monies to be used for further green efforts. Patrick is ready to spearhead projects, and has already designed a map for bike paths, which he presented to Circulate San Diego + the organization working on sidewalks and walking trails in La Mesa. "There is grant money available for projects, but we must first formulate a master bike plan. We can knock it off one mile at a time." Patrick firmly believes that by increasing awareness of energy use and conservation practices, La Mesa will be ready for future growth without compromising air quality and green spaces. For two years my son rode his bike to Helix High School from our house on Tio Diego Pl. Due to the lack of bike lanes, he told stories of hostile drivers and avoiding accidents that would have been the fault of the automobile driver. As a professional care manager, I had a 94 year old client who lived on Cullowee St. He was too scared to walk across University to Von's, so he drove his truck! If you agree there is more we can do to make La Mesa friendly for alternative transportation and a green community, and if you want a representative whose interest at heart is all that is best for La Mesa - today and for generations to come - vote Patrick Dean. Sincerely, Kassandra A. King |
