My leadership in education started in 1974 when my first child entered into Kindergarten; I was am active parent volunteer for twenty years before being elected to the school board in 1994. I have served, as the Board representative, on numerous district committees , such as: VIP, Bond Oversight, Budget Advisory, CAC Special Ed.,Coordinated School Health Team, District Advisory, DELAC, GATE, Metro Ed, and more.

I have served as the Board of Education President and Vice President many times. I was the During my first term as President I also served as the Measure C Bond Campaign Chairperson. I have supported the Measure F & H Bond campaigns. I spearheaded the formation of a Gunderson Educational Foundation. I served on San Jose Mayor's City Foundation Task Force.

As a community member I actively supported youth sports in funding and served on the OGLL Board of directors and was honored as Community Volunteer of The Year in 1998. I procured two $1,000 Educational Grants from IBM for Carson Elementary science program , while serving on the School Site Council & PTA Treasurer.
