- Land Use. Sensible reform of Palo Alto's land use policies to set the pace of development at a rate our infrastructure can absorb. When we build, I favor housing over additional office space. Palo Alto has granted too many exceptions for large massive buildings. Diversification of the City's housing inventory through the addition of studio and 1 bedroom apartments (which we have too few of). We need to push back on ABAG, along with other cities for local control. We also need to protect our retail from office encroachment.
- Focus on the Whole City. Getting the two halves of our civic organizations--the City and the School district--to work better together, particularly on sites for new schools and supportive community services. Cubberley Community Center is shared by School District and City and is falling apart due to an inability to decide on long term goals for the largest remaining public land site in the city. I will
focus on moving plans for Cubberley forward.
- Openness and Trust in Government. Recently a grand jury found that our current City Council and City Manager conducted inappropriate meetings in private for a project that far exceeded zoning and discussed the sale of park land to a private individual. There is serious work to be done to regain trust and have people believe in the positive impact of government. Faith in democracy can start with local government.
