Bob's Method for Creating "Innovation in Education"

By Bob Vu

Candidate for Board Member; Irvine Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Read how adding art education reinforces STEM classes for Irvine students.
As a school board member there is a specific initiative I will champion. The current need for students to take STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classes requires another component for competing in the 21st century.

The world that rewards STEM educated students also expects them to be able to apply their knowledge to real life problem. In other words, the world is crying out for creative problem solvers! That is why I promise to promote the integration of the arts into STEM curriculum in the Irvine School District.

When we add art to STEM we empower the curriculum with STEAM! Future doctors, engineers, scientists, business leaders and most every career imaginable will face the demand for more creative solutions in solving problems. MY support for a STEAM initiative is about transforming practices in education that unify knowing and doing in education. Educating students in the arts assures the creation of more creative problem solvers.

I believe that the arts hold the key to creativity, and creativity drives innovation. Innovation in the 21st century is necessary to create the new industries of the future. I strongly believe these new industries are the heart of our economic well being.

My slogan "Innovation in Education" is about using all of the resources in our Irvine community to provide a STEAM experience for every child.
