Goals for 2014-2018By Elizabeth "Beth" SwiftCandidate for Council Member; City of Buena Park | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I will continue to maintain the services that make Buena Park a safe, beautiful, resource-rich environment. As in 2010, I want Buena Park to be a family-friendly, business-welcoming, and education-oriented community, in which citizens enjoy a safe, beautiful, resource-rich environment. I will continue to make decisions that will maintain the services that promote those ends. Specifically, I will: 1. Promote the use of Core Values to influence decisions and the behavior of City staff, commissioners, and Council Members. 2. Maintain essential services (police, fire, water, sewer, etc.) at high levels of professionalism and reliability. 3. Represent the City in a responsible manner on the Orange County Fire Authority and other civic Boards and Committees as I am currently doing. 4. Inform City Council, City staff, and others of the importance of preserving and honoring Buena Park's heritage buildings; urge staff to complete an inventory of historic sites and buildings and establish historic districts. 5. Press for the establishment of bikeways and walking pathways on Edison right-of-way property, secure funding through grants, and begin small but begin. 6. Maintain fiscal health of the city by monitoring and paying down unfunded liabilities and containing costs. 7. Advance the importance of education to the economic future of Buena Park through annual "Buena Park Goes to College" events, through promoting the idea of early reading experiences, and through encouraging college completion. 8. Coordinate Education Committee quarterly meetings with City staff, school districts, and community partners. 9. Encourage the adoption of business building practices such as a concierge-style plan-check and regulation review to personalize and expedite the approval process. 10. Apply for the All America City award. 11. Encourage all residents--including the religious groups-- to participate in city events and improve their own portion of the community. |
