A homeowner and resident of Mission Viejo, California since 1989, Mr. Kiss is a well-rounded professional engineering manager, small business owner, lecturer, author, educator, community volunteer and businessman that understands Mission Viejo's history, heritage, traditions, the quality of life and our friendly community, as well as the need for openness, integrity, leadership, transparency, growth, fiscal responsibility, and accountability. He believes in learning during one's lifetime and is interested to invest in education, intellectual capital and into our children's future. Mr. Kiss is committed to solid principles that have guided him throughout his life and throughout his years of service in the private and public sectors. At the core of those principles lies a firm belief in limited government that inspires trust, and demands accountability, economic growth and fiscal responsibility, a clear vision, integrity, improving and protecting the quality of life for Mission Viejo Residents and upholding rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. He received his Master Degree in Engineering from California State University + Fullerton, and is a registered professional engineer in the State of California and Michigan. In addition to his duties as the principal manager of DJK Engineering, Mr. Kiss has served for over 10 years as an engineering Part-Time Faculty at Saddleback College , Orange Coast College (OCC) and at the California State University Fullerton (CSUF). As an engineering Lecturer Mr. Kiss's area of expertise is in the field of structural design and engineering, and taught graduate and undergraduate engineering classes for the Division of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil & Environmental Departments. As a member of the community Desi is championing both education and sport. He also serves as an AYSO community volunteer as both coach and referee and supports and promotes education thru soccer. Mr. Kiss works in partnership with schools, community and industry leaders to promote and improve education and to invest in intellectual capital and to arm the younger generations with the power which knowledge gives. Over his 30-year career, he has served in many capacities; most recently as principal manager of DJK Engineering. Mr. Kiss served as lead structural design engineer for Boeing's Delta IV Rocket Manufacturing Facility in Decatur Alabama, one of the World's largest structures. Mr. Kiss also had a lead role on the structural engineering team that designed and engineered the National Ignition Facility located in Livermore, California. The Department of Energy's National Ignition facility is a 3.2 billion-dollar project that houses the World's largest laser. Mr. Kiss is a member or affiliated with several engineering and professional organizations such as: the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Structural Engineering Institute (SEI), and the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC). He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and structural engineering articles in various US and European professional engineering publications. The latest articles published in the Modern Steel Construction Magazine, Structural Engineer Magazine, and Engineered Systems Magazine, are available on DJK Engineering's website and others are available online. Prior to forming DJK Engineering in 2002, Mr. Kiss held various structural engineering supervisory positions with large corporations such as: Washington Group International (Morrison Knudsen), Parsons Corporation, The Austin Company and The Walt Disney Company. This experience has given Mr. Kiss the practical know-how to deal with the City's organization, budgets, problems and solutions and the back-bone required to move our City forward, protect and improve the quality of life for Residents and Citizens, promote and maintain a safe family oriented community with great schools and to ensure that our City services are being performed at the highest level with a greater accountability for our taxpayer dollars. |
