Los Alamitos High School Ranked by Newsweek in the Top 100 in the Country!10293 Bloomfield Street, Los Alamitos, CA 90720-2200 (562) 799-4700 Fax (562) 799-4730www.losal.org N E W S R E L E A S E DATE: September 10, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Los Alamitos High School Ranked in the Top 100 in the Country By Sherry Kropp, Superintendent, Los Alamitos Unified School District Once again, Los Alamitos High School is ranked among the nation's premiere educational institutions for high school students in the United States of America. At the recent Board of Education meeting on September 9, Board President, Dr. Jeffrey Barke, Board Clerk, Mrs. Diana Hill, and Superintendent Kropp congratulated Dr. Joshua Arnold, Los Alamitos High School Principal, for this exceptional ranking. Out of the approximately 30,000 high schools across the country, Newsweek ranks Los Al 87th --- a true testament to our commitment that all students will achieve at high levels and have unlimited options following high school graduation. (http://www.newsweek.com/high-schools/americas-top-schools-2014.) Rankings like this are determined from data sets produced from student achievement scores on Advanced Placement Exams, the SAT, the ACT, and more. These results, of course, do not drive the work we do for our students. But they do validate our efforts for our Griffins to achieve and produce measurable outcomes among some of the top high schools and students in America. Results matter. And this year, we're honored that Los Alamitos High School was ranked among the most challenging high schools in the entire country --- an achievement that would not be possible without the collective efforts of every student, teacher, parent, community, and staff member in our learning community. We're proud of the news published this week from Newsweek, and we look forward to Los Alamitos High School continuing to be a stellar school that offers a meaningful, rigorous, and relevant experience for all students. Board of Education President, Dr. Jeffrey Barke, commented, "We work hard on behalf of the students and our community, and we are extremely proud of this accomplishment. That our high school ranks #87 in the country definitely puts a smile on our faces and also makes us even more committed to continued improvement. Our work is never done!" |
