TARGET VIOLENT GANG RELATED CRIMES AND MAJOR COUNTY DRUG TRAFFICKINGBy Scott MillerCandidate for Sheriff/Coroner; County of Monterey | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Gang violence is in the news on a regular basis in Monterey County. The County has a Gang Suppression Task Force which is constantly responding and collaborating with local cities within the County. Even more insidious is the major drug trafficking which is operating under the guise of legitimate businesses. I will continue to aggressively attack both gang violence and drug trafficking within our county.Gang violence has dominated law enforcement efforts in Monterey County for decades. Major narcotics activity is intertwined with the gang culture. During my first term in office we have had major successes in combating these two issues, but more remains to be done. We have combined our narcotics and gang enforcement units to maximize effectiveness. The Sheriff's Office has co-located our team with those of the Salinas Police Department, Homeland Security, the FBI, ICE, ATFE, CHP and others. We recently obtained the services of a task force commander from the California Department of Justice to oversee the operation of all personnel. Our focus on gangs and drugs has never been more robust. We are in this battle for the long term and are well positioned to reduce these negative impacts on our community's quality of life. |
