Getting Water and preserving our Heritage and PatrimonyBy Ken CuneoCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Pacific Grove | |

Our current supply of water is threatened. New sources have to be found. Also we are charged with preserving our wonderful heritageThe State of California has ordered the Monterey Peninsula to cease over pumping the Carmel River. Without concerted action on a regional basis both homes and businesses especially Hospitality will suffer. Whenever you move to almost any other American city, a simple call will get a water hook up both for residential and business purposes. Here in PG you get on a waiting list of who-knows-when you can get water. The CAL AM project for a Desal plant must get done. Currently it is embroiled in all sorts of legal maneuvering that has delayed the project. It will not meet the 2016 deadline. Yet it must move forward. In PG the City has a local water project Phase I that will take the Golf Course and city properties off of Potable Water and substitute grey water. I support both the Desal plant and the PG local water project. We need them both. PG has unique scenic beauty with 3.2 miles of Coastline, the Magic Carpet, the Butterfly Sanctuary and beautiful open space. We also have over 1000 historic homes and the only lighthouse Point Pinos on the Peninsula. Special city events such as Chautauqua Days, Butterfly Parade, Pet Parade, Feast of Lanterns, and Good Old Days are pure Pacific Grove. Because we have so much more as a City we also have more of a responsibility to be good stewards and pass all this on to the next generation. I support PG Heritage and the responsibilities which come with it. |
