Monterey County, CA | November 4, 2014 Election |
LAND USEBy Jason CampbellCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Seaside | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Seaside deserves better than horse race tracks, casinos, and more exclusive subdivisions.Outdoor recreation is considered the top draw for educated and creative workers - the kind of workers who create new diverse businesses and opportunities for the community where they choose to live. Our location near sea and open space is a top reason students are drawn to CSU, Monterey Bay, and why they want to stay. Cities that are walkable, bike friendly, with outdoor recreation space are number one on the list for this bright population. We must not squander this opportunity by destroying our unique open space, habitat, and trails, used by thousands, or by building houses for which there is no demand and which do not supply tax revenue. 13,000 Monterey County homes have been foreclosed, and our city blocks have many homes in need of fixing before we pave over our recreational open space for a race track. I believe in making wise use of our resources. |
