Privatizing and Outsourcing of School ServicesBy Patty FinerCandidate for Member, Board of Education; Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
SMMUSD Auxiliary ServicesFor the most part, SMMUSD makes everyone an employee of the district, and the Unions are happy, but everyone realizes that the school district needs to cut costs, and one place may be in the Auxiliary Services. They may want to offer private services to groups who need to use the facilities at the school or look to ways to cut costs or raise money for the district without a bake sale or fundraiser, and certainly not a bond. One program that the school district promotes, where they could make money, they send to Washington DC and give Washington DC the money instead of keeping it for the district. Public entities does not function like the private sector, but they need to look at cutting some of the fat. If the district would work with the private sector they may produce a better product |
