My Position on WaterPleasanton needs a long-term strategy to meet our needs for sustainable, clean potable water. The city is advancing a project now to utilize more recycled water for irrigation of the Hacienda Business Park and the Mercer Sports Park. They have also initiated stringent conservation plans. While commendable, these plans don't assure a stable supply of drinking water for our residents. To accomplish this we need to clearly identify our future needs as a city, determine whether residents accept recycled water as a viable source of drinking water, and work with local agencies to put in place long-term solutions. These may be costly and may take many years to come into fruition, but are a need that we cannot leave unmet. In addition, we are currently under-utilizing the "Chain of Lakes" east of Pleasanton, that are largely part of the quarry operations. These lakes have the volume to potentially act as both additional storage during times of drought, and equally importantly as untreated excess water storage during times of heavy rain to mitigate flooding. I will advocate for making a long-term solution a priority and laying out a sound plan to accomplish this critical need. |
