Ethics and transparencyBy Todd S. RogersCandidate for Sheriff; County of Los Angeles | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Ethics matter in policing"If I am honored to be elected Los Angeles County Sheriff, I will run a transparent and community-focused department. I will make my own ethical conduct an example for everyone to follow." The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) is the largest Sheriff's Department in the United States--with that comes tremendous responsibility. If LASD employees fail to conduct themselves ethically the entire community suffers. As Assistant Sheriff, Todd Rogers has already implemented critical ethics reforms, including: The revision of hiring policies to ensure transparency and hiring based on merit. The creation of tough standards to eliminate so-called the "In the Car" mentality that has led to department cronyism. The implementation of a landmark "whistleblower" website. Now, Sheriff's Department employees can anonymously report misconduct and not fear reprisals As Sheriff, Todd will implement additional transparency and ethics measures: Implement strict accountability measures regarding the hiring, training and retention of department reserves and volunteers. Strict accountability throughout the chain of command to ensure compliance with department mandates. Strengthen the LASD's Internal Affairs and Internal Criminal Investigations Bureaus to maintain a clear firewall between internal investigators and the rest of the department. |
