Official Statement for Al Petersen

Candidate Ballot Statement. Al Petersen I will bring positive changes to the office and I will reduce the excessive reporting burden to the business owners. I have the perspective and ability to accomplish the changes taxpayers are asking for. Through my 30 years in Butte County and my 25 years of experience in private and in the assessors office as an appraiser and an auditor, my career has encompassed the necessary experience and qualifications to provide the taxpayers of Butte County with the highest level of performance. The Assessor is in charge of a service department. It is critical to maintain this as a non-political office. This service department applies the laws that affect every citizen and supports funding for public safety and schools. Like all laws, this must be applied in an unbiased manner, free from the external affiliations associated with political partisanship. My campaign represents a commitment to the job, accountability for the department, and taxpayer education. The Assessor oversees a staff of 41 trained professionals charged with maintaining property tax values within the county. Every four years the voting public reviews that performance, examines the current candidates and elects the Assessor for the next term. |
