My name is Scott Dorsey. I am running for Tredyffrin-Easttown School Director in Region 2.

I was once told by a guidance counsellor that I was not college material. My parents and I believed he was mistaken. I went on to earn two degrees, including a Master's Degree in Education.

My wife Debbie and I moved to Tredyffrin twenty years ago so that our children could receive a top-quality education. Born and raised in this district, my daughter Raven is a graduate of Conestoga and a Pre-med student at Stony Brook University. My son Martin is a junior, an honor student, and a three -sport varsity letterman.

Today our district faces great challenges with the budget and labor issues. I am both qualified and deeply committed to meeting these challenges.

I have served as Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Holmesburg for the last 9 years. I have chaired several non-profits, including the Philadelphia Baptist Organization, and helped to lead these organizations through tough financial times by restraining spending and making cuts that did not hurt their missions. Currently, I am an administrator for a non-profit foster care and adoption agency, Children's Choice. I helped manage a turnaround and achieved excellent recruitment results.

I am a former Philadelphia school teacher. I also coached football, basketball and track for 20 years.

I believe our community and students need school directors who will:

  • Change the tone at public meetings
  • Provide the community more opportunities to have an active voice in school board decisions
  • Hold the Administration accountable
  • Exercise fiscal discipline while seeking fair, sustainable solutions to budget challenges
  • Fight against unfunded mandates such as the Keystone exams

I am not afraid to fight for what is right. I have been a vocal opponent of outsourcing in our schools and will work to balance the budget without doing it on the backs of the lowest paid workers and students.

I am pleased with the School Board's decision not to outsource TENIG employees while cutting costs and I look forward to developing a teachers' contract that will be a win-win for students, teachers and taxpayers. .
