This information is provided by the candidate |
As a member of the Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District (LGVSD) Board for 12 years, I have relentlessly fought for you, the rate payer!Promoting solar energy for district facilities+saving rate - payers money and reducing the District's carbon footprint. Implementing a preventive maintenance program - The District has been recognized by the California Water Environment Association, CWEA, for its efforts and received "Collection System of the Year" award 3 times since I have been in office. The program has resulted in a consistent record of lower spills. LGVSD averages the lowest spill ratio, year after year, not only in Marin, but in the entire Bay Area. (Fewer spills means more awards.) Expanding the District's recycled water effort - providing alternative water to the community and improving the environment at the same time. A new, state-of-the-art water treatment plant was dedicated in 2012. Maintaining a fair rate - LGVSD's rate is one of the lowest rates in Marin County. Watershed approach - I founded the Gallinas Watershed Council. I am proud of my career as a 34-year expert in the wastewater field. I was able to obtain a grade IV Certificate in collection from the California Water Environment Association -- highest possible and considered to be management level. Early in my tenure on the district board, I met with residents of Marinwood, Santa Venetia and Terra Linda to talk about creating a watershed approach for the entire community, including restoring streams to their natural state, flood mitigation, dredging, recreation, protection of the environment, and conserving water. The beauty of the watershed approach is that Individual groups can band together and have greater impact on public policy. The efforts of the Gallinas Watershed Council resulted in valuable partnerships between the City of San Rafael, the County of Marin, Las Gallinas Valley Sanitary District and Flood Zones 6 and 7. I have lived in Marin County my entire life. I am a proud graduate of Novato High School and College of Marin. Since 1972, my wife Pam and I raised our 2 children on Mabry Way in Santa Venetia and are now helping to raise our 3 grandchildren. "As your elected official, I am committed to serving the community with strong leadership. I have a proven track record of open communication, coordinating efforts and getting things done! " |
