About Ellen RosenbergBy Ellen RosenbergCandidate for Governing Board Member; Manhattan Beach Unified School District | |

Please read about my background and accomplishments on the board during my current term.In 1985, I moved to Manhattan for the beach, reasonable commute to Los Angeles, and relaxed lifestyle. Ten years later I had married and we had our first child. I felt fortunate that we chose a great town with excellent schools. In 2000, our eldest entered kindergarten and I stopped working full time. I redirected my energy into volunteering and learning more about our schools. Since that time I have held the following leadership roles in the district:
-Manhattan Beach Unified School Board Member 2009-present Despite the changing state economy and the adverse effect on education funding, Manhattan Beach has maintained a quality public education system. As a current board member I am proud of what we have accomplished over the past four years, in spite of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Since I took office in 2009, our district has:
-Maintained fiscal solvency and responsible reserves. Our board must continue to balance the challenges of inadequate public school funding with the need to attract and retain the finest teachers, and provide students with an engaging, stimulating and relevant education that prepares them for college and the 21st century workplace. I have a BS in finance from USC and an MBA from UCLA. I worked for Wells Fargo Bank in commercial lending and at IBM and Mattel in marketing and product management. My husband and I have three sons, a MCHS 2013 graduate, MCHS junior, and MBMS 8th grader. I believe my financial background, my long residency in Manhattan Beach and my experience as a parent and volunteer add value to the school board. There are very few places in Los Angeles where students can safely walk to outstanding public schools with their neighborhood friends. We have something special here. I have worked hard to maintain and enhance our school system, and look forward to continuing to do so. |
