I was born and raised in Lima, Ohio ("Garden Spot of the Midwest" and "Gateway to Toledo". I half-joke that I grew up in a Norman Rockwell painting. After graduating, I went on active duty with the Navy from '64-'66 and served as a Navy Journalist and Rescue Swimmer in Vietnam ('65-'66). When we returned stateside, I was stationed in Long Beach. It was then I discovered the South Bay in general and Hermosa Beach in particular. I was hooked. In 1975, I was finally able return to Hermosa and have been a resident and business owner ever since. Over the last 38 years in Hermosa, I owned and operated the legendary beach pub Fat Face Fenner's Falloon for over 25 years. In the early 80's I was a founding member of the original HB Restaurant and Tavern Owner's Association I co-founded the Southern California Mobile Food Vendors Association and am a pioneer in the L.A. Food Truck Industry. I am active in local Navy support activities and veterans issues. I was first elected to the Hermosa City Council in 1993 and had the honor of serving two terms as your Mayor and Councilmember. I retired from the council in 2001 (or so I thought). I am also the proud father of Jennifer Bowler, Graduate of Hermosa View & Valley, RUHS (2007) and San Francisco State University (2012). Jennifer currently resides in San Francisco. |
