Brenda G. Hackett is a native of Philadelphia, graduating from Little Flower Catholic Girls High School. Her BBA, with a major in Accounting. was earned at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Her accounting career began in 1975 as Controller of Theodore Presser Company, a music publisher. In 1985 she became Controller of Opportunities Industrialization Center in Philadelphia, which trains people for work and provides education for adults who have not received a high school diploma. After four years at OIC, she became the Chief Financial Officer for The Sterling Organization which provided financial management services to businesses and non profit organizations. She became a full time Deputy Director for Finance at one of her clients, Children's Literacy Initiative, and served there until 2003 when she became Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Metanexus Institute, an international non profit organization of scholars.

Her late husband, Paul J. Hackett, worked in The Franklin Institute Research Laboratories for more than 30 years. They lived in Wayne for 45 years and had four children all of whom attended public schools in Radnor Township. Eight of their nine grandchildren live in Pennsylvania and three of them attended Methacton schools.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Hackett has volunteered in a variety of ways.

  • When her children were young, she was involved with the Cub Scouts, Little League and Girls Softball, the PTA and Wrestling Parents and the children's religious education program at St. Katharine of Siena Church.
  • She was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Wayne Business Association, a member of the Government Affairs Council of the Main Line Chamber of Commerce and a Board member of Delaware Valley Council of Agencies and Philadelphia Young Playwrights.
  • She was a founder of three organizations: Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children of Radnor Township, Westwyn Civic Association and the Wayne affiliate of Voice of the Faithful.
  • Through the Outreach English program, she mentored immigrant parents of children in the local public schools.
  • For Learning Ally, she recorded college textbooks for blind and dyslexic students.
