A clinical psychologist, Murphy served at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and then ran his own private practice. He holds adjunct faculty position with the University of Pittsburgh and authored two books. As a State Senator, Murphy penned Pennsylvania's Patient Bill of Rights. Now in the Navy Reserve Medical Service Corps, Murphy serves at Walter Reed working with TBI and PTSD patients.
