I'm a retired scientist. My wife and I have lived in Half Moon Bay for 14 years, and we pinch ourselves every morning when we see that Half Moon Bay has somehow managed to keep its scenic character and avoid bankruptcy. Yet I'm running for City Council because I am worried by continuation of this "we'll get by" approach to governing: ignoring inconvenient laws and regulations that affect our environment, engaging in back room deals, spending unnecessarily and focusing only on short-term fixes. We need to stop this irresponsibility.
What would I do differently? I've learned to make judgments based on facts not wishes. In science as in political matters, transparency is critical. I will listen to you, keep you informed and award contracts in an open process. I'll match our desire for facilities and programs with our real budget. I'll work to keep our coastal assets from illegal development and also give developers a clear sense of constraints so they can plan for intelligent development. I'll restore the city's reputation by dealing honestly and cooperatively with others and honor the Coastal Act. I love Half Moon Bay and want it restored and preserved as a beautiful city and a great place to live.
