A lifelong California resident, I have always been drawn to water related activities. Growing up in Southern California, I learned swim at the Santa Ana YMCA, and sail at a sailing camp put on by the Newport Beach Harbor Department. It was there I learned that with a vision, a small amount of infrastructure (a dinghy dock) and a good teacher, kids lives can be changed.
After moving from Southern California to Northern California to attend U.C.Berkeley, I realized how unique our Bay Area environment is, and how lucky we are to live in such a naturally beautiful place.
I still love to sail a small Hobie cat sailboat in Pillar Point Harbor and along the coast. I have become an enthusiastic Stand-up Paddler (as well as a certified instructor). I have been an enthusiastic volunteer in our local schools, helped build Moss Beach Park, and currently am volunteering by drawing plans for a new Moss Beach Park bathroom, as well drawing beach access alternatives for local beaches in need of better beach access.
I have a passion for coastal planning, and have worked for years with the Midcoast Community Council's Planning & Zoning Committee, the Midcoast Community Council where I served 4 years (including 1 year as chair) and County leaders to improve coastal planning policy. I have worked to support the installation of the California Coastal Trail, to better provide access and recreation for residents and visitors.
Our harbors are great resources, but I feel that a change in leadership could make a huge difference in the lives of San Mateo County residents, especially our children.
