The mission of the SFUSD is to educate and prepare our students with skills that will allow them to go to college and compete in the job market. The three (3) critical issues that I feel we need to address are:
1. Academic Achievement for All Students
- Setting high and consistent standards for all students and closing the achievement gap. For students that can't perform, there needs to be programs to assist. For example, specialized tutoring.
2. Strategic Community Collaborations
- Develop and leverage strategic collaborations and funding streams with our corporate, civic, and community neighbors to provide needed programs to address student issues such as poverty, the major indicator of the achievement gap. (i.e. wellness centers, counseling services, job readiness programs, increase City and County of SF's in-kind services, etc.).
3. Funding
- Funding priorities should re-examined with youth, family, and community to ensure that the SFUSD fund top priorities. In a time with such limited resources, we will set ourselves up to fail we have many priorities and inadequate resources to make these priorities a success.
