Message from Mike Sellers

My name is Mike Sellers and in the upcoming November election I will be running for the position of Chief of Police for the City of Santa Clara.

I am a Santa Clara resident and homeowner. My law enforcement career began when I joined the Santa Clara Police Department Cadet Program while attending high school. I continued to volunteer my time as I attended De Anza College and joined the Santa Clara Police Reserves. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University of Long Beach and have also attended both the FBI National Academy and the P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) Supervisory Leadership Institute.

I fell in love with this profession and knew from the start that I wanted to spend my life serving Santa Clara. I joined the Santa Clara Police Department as a police officer in 1985 and have been promoted up the ranks to my current position of Assistant Chief of Police. I have spent my entire law enforcement career with the Santa Clara Police Department, and it has been an honor to serve the people of Santa Clara for the past 27 years.

I am blessed to have two wonderful children, Matthew and Amanda. Matthew graduated from the California State University of Sacramento. He has been hired as a Santa Clara Firefighter and is currently attending the Fire Academy. Amanda is a junior at California State University of Sacramento and wants to attend culinary school in the near future.

I am very humbled and honored that all of the former Police Chiefs since 1975 have endorsed me in this election. I'd like to acknowledge and thank the prior Chiefs: Donald "Manny" Ferguson, Frank Vasquez, Charlie Arolla, Steve Lodge and current Chief, Kevin Kyle for their confidence and support.

As your Chief, I will be committed to doing things the "Santa Clara Way", pledging to continue the long-standing tradition of honest and ethical law enforcement to best serve our community. I will keep our community informed and continue to work closely with our schools, seniors, businesses and city departments.

I am asking for your consideration and vote on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
