I am running for re-election to the Palo Alto City Council and I ask for your support. I'm proud of my first term serving you, including serving as mayor in 2010. As the city faced a severe economic downturn, I led by:
- Making our government more efficient and effective. I focused on reforms to our pension and benefit obligations while reducing the number of city workers by 13% -- without layoffs -- and maintaining our high level of services. Our city government has become more efficient through stronger management, innovation and new technology. In short, we are doing more with less.
- Protecting and improving our exceptional quality of life. I advocated successfully for a responsible rail plan that safeguards our community and negotiated a well-considered development agreement for renovation of the Stanford hospitals. We have improved our city services while increasing investment in our streets, bikeways, parks, libraries and facilities. I have worked to make us more environmentally sustainable and better prepared for emergencies.
I will continue to make our city more innovative, more efficient and more fiscally sound so that we can be a model of an environmentally sustainable community with a dynamic economy.
