? 1. How would you determine that the schools are using federal, state and local funds wisely and fairly and how would you report your findings to the community?

Answer from Harold Stuart:

We have an open budgeting process that seeks and encourages community input. Our district is audited to make sure that the money is spent correctly, and we report to our community through our newsletter how our money is spent. I am also personally available to community members who want to ask questions and am happy to spend time with them.

? 2. Are the schools offering instruction appropriate to the diverse educational abilities of all the students?

Answer from Harold Stuart:

We work very hard to make sure that each student is given an appropriate education. Our programs target each student and we track the progress of each student individually.

We also offer gifted and talented programs, excellent special education programs including innovative concepts like response to intervention. We also have excellent music programs and also offer enrichment programs in the summer months.

? 3. Where do you want the District to be five years from now? What steps should the District take to get there?

Answer from Harold Stuart:

I want the Union School District to continue to be one of the very best places in California for a student to obtain an education. We get there by having excellent teachers and staff and properly supporting them with an innovative, financially sound district that strives for excellence.

We know how to do this. We are doing this now, and will continue to help each student succeed.
