Candidates StatementBy Steven VargasCandidate for Council Member; City of Brea | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
To be printed in Ballot materialsI believe in Brea. My family and I have lived in Brea for 21 years and love being a part of this community. My life is about service; as a former councilman, Iraqi war veteran or community volunteer, I will serve with honor, courage and commitment. My plan for Brea includes: Greater Government Transparency - I support both the Brea Accountability Act and Open Governance Act on the ballot. We deserve to know how government leaders are spending our tax dollars and not allow backroom deals. Pension Reform - Brea has millions of dollars in unfunded public employee pension liabilities. I opposed the pension spike that caused this problem in the first place and now there is no choice but to take action. We need to find cost savings in every corner of City Hall including cutting executive compensation and eliminating perks for elected officials. Partnerships - We can support our business community through public private partnerships not giveaways and support our schools through innovation not higher taxes. Please help me bring new energetic leadership to the council to ensure a brighter future with your vote on November 6th. Call or email me anytime (714) 306-4523 or vivavargas@aol.com. http://www.abetterbrea.com |
