CHUCK GIBSON CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF
By Jim May
Friends and supporters assembled at Selma's Restaurant in Ladera Ranch for Chuck Gibson's campaign launch and to hear his interesting overview of the state of the Santa Margarita Water District and its future challenges. He detailed the diverse components of SMWD's vast holdings and its strategic plan to increase the reliability and quality of our water. He emphasized the depth and breadth of professionalism among the District's past and current board members and staff; and, with three openings on the board in the upcoming election, he and others see their high quality replacements as an absolute necessity for the well-being of our community and those of our neighbors.
Chuck was encouraged to consider his candidacy by a group of notable citizens as someone who would be easily vetted for the assignment; and upon consideration of his life-long career activities and achievements, he came to the conclusion that his would be a perfect fit to carry on with the high expectations of the office. He noted that he has been researching the metrics of the organization, including financial, policy, and technical considerations. He stated that he wants to be able to quickly earn the respect of fellow SMWD board members and staff, and to put himself in the position of making constructive contributions with the consensus of his peers there.
Chuck's campaign slogan is "Guarding your water and wallet", and it is epitomized in his three-pronged approach to his planned tenure at SMWD: Protect the District and its rate payers with conservative and thoughtful business practices; bring his career resources and outside audit-based analyses, where needed, to the important issues and controls affecting ongoing activities; and commit his efforts to be open-minded and transparent for the sake of clarity in his personal approach and in the interests of the public.
