My name is: Harmesh Kumar, Ph.D.

My age is: 53

My occupation is: Psychologist/Businessman

Education and Qualifications:

I am a resident of Concord for the past 20 years, married with one daughter. Being a psychologist for the past 27 years, I have worked with people from all walks of life. This gives me a unique perspective on the kinds of problems our community faces especially stemming from the interrelation of various systems. I have proven track records and experience in meeting the real challenges and creating various sustainable jobs and solutions in our community.

Currently, I am serving on the Measure Q Committee and served as Chair and Commissioner on the Human Relations Commission. I also served on the boards of various non-profit agencies including Monument Community Partnership. As an executive board member of the Interfaith Council of the Contra Costa County for more than 10 years, I started the Annual Spring Festival nine years ago in downtown Concord.

We need an outside the box thinking to serve our community. My vision is to use collective wisdom and inner voice rather than shallow intelligence to revitalize the downtown and two Bart Stations and make them a vibrant business and community hub; promote economic viability of the region such as Naval Weapon Station for quality growth; create jobs and affordable housing; create world-class education and training center in Concord; reduce truancy in our local schools; find permanent solutions to homelessness, mental illness, and domestic violence; and take real steps to create public safety and improve quality of life I strive to be dynamic, proactive, innovative, and plan for the future focusing on teamwork and empowerment.
