My name is: Ed Birsan My age is: 62 My occupation is: Concord Small Business Owner-Surveyor-Container Transportation Expert, Maritime Education and Qualifications: I have a solid record of experience and action: member of the City of Concord's Community Services Commission, the Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, Navy Restoration Advisory Board (to clean up the Weapons Station), Community Service Director-Concord/Diablo Rotary, Monument Community Transportation Committee, and the Senior Club to name a few. I am on the Board of Directors of several non-profits, including Cambridge Child Development Center, and am currently President of the Concord Friends of the Library. During my term we have tripled donation amounts to our Library. I am a member of the Army Tidal Area Board protecting the Tidal Area and supporting modernization of the port facilities to bring 800 new jobs to Concord. When the City tried to close down the Farmers' Market at Concord High, I led the effort to save it. As a big supporter of childhood and adult literacy, I created a program that brought thousands of books to Ygnacio Valley, Westwood, and Wren Elementary Schools. I also created an innovative adult literacy approach. I am especially proud of the four tons of food our Rotary Club collected last year for Concord's food pantries. As a member of the City Council, I will workto re-establish our neighborhood police substations to protect and improve the value of our homes, and bring jobs to Concord. As a local business owner, I will make Concord business friendly, end lifetime medical expenses for Councilmen, no-bid contracts and support pension reform. Carol and I have been married 38 years. Together we have two grown children and two grandchildren. I earned my Bachelor's degree from City University NY, and graduated from Concord's Citizen's Police Academy and Leadership Academy.
