Biography for Belia Martinez I grew up in south Texas next to the Mexican border. I was raised in a low-income family, but knew that having a formal education would open opportunities for my future. I worked very hard through high school and enlisted in the United States Army where I served my country and earned financial assistance for a college education. My first tour was in Korea and I then went onto Washington State where I completed my enlistment. I returned to Texas to enroll at Texas Woman's University where I received Bachelor's Degree in Business with a concentration Finance. I went on to work for a Global Corporation in Telecommunications where I traveled to Latin American as a Project Manager. I have a strong passion for education because of what is has done for me. In addition to being a Board Trustee, I am the Program Coordinator for our Youth Employment Program for East Bay Youth and Family Initiatives. This program works with at risk students from the Tri-Valley cities to include Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton that are on juvenile probation or foster care between the ages of 15 to 18 years old. Duties include training students on work ethics, life skills and counseling them to stay in school. I conduct intern and employer recruitment and working directly with youth Probation Officer to ensure their success. I meet with participating employers and students to make sure they complete work schedules. Additional duties include maintaining timesheets, accountability logs, monthly reports, invoicing, conducting workshops and administering test. It is because of my various experience and skills that I feel that I am a good a candidate for the School Board of Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District. |
