I moved to California from Hudson, Ohio in 2000 to take a position at Lucent Microelectronics. Through the years and various mergers and spin offs, Lucent Microelectronics became LSI, Corp, which is where I am employed today as an engineer doing design for networking chips. Before moving here, I was on the Hudson City Council. I was in my fifth year, having been elected twice, when I resigned to take the position at Lucent. Prior to that I was appointed to the Hudson Zoning Commision where I served for 6 years. I chaired that body for 4 of those years. I was also elected to the 1994 Hudson Merger Commission which was created to prepare terms and conditions for the possible merger of the incorporated and unincorporated areasof Hudson. These terms and conditions were presented to the voters in the election of 1994 in which they were accepted by both enitities. I was also appointed to the Cuyahoga Communities Council which is a consortium of cities and townships surrounding the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Its purpose is to share common interests and concerns with the Park Service relative to the park and the surrounding communities. In Hdson, I was also an Emergency Medical Technician for 13 years with the Hudson Volunteer Emergency Medical Service. This service, unlike volunteer fire services, require members to be on-station in shifts of 4 hours or 8 hours throughout the day and night, 7 days a week, without compensation. There were also back up crews on call that would come to the station whenever the primary crew was on a call. I regularly put in 60 hours on-station and 30 hours on back up per month. Since coming to California, I have been deeply involved in my work. Initially I tried to find a volunteer EMS similar to what was in Hudson but to no avail. I rented in Sunnyvale for 9 years before being able to purchase a home in San Jose. Having established myself in the community, I feel it is time to get back into government where I can begin to help people again. |
