Not only is Mayor Candace Andersen endorsed by our outgoing Supervisor Gayle Uilkema and our county's Top Law Enforcement leaders, but she has over ten years experience serving on City Councils, she has a degree in Public Policy, and is an attorney who put her legal career on hold to serve the community and raise her family.

MAYOR, TOWN OF DANVILLE Mayor Andersen began her second term as Mayor on December 6, 2011. She also served as Mayor in 2008. As Mayor she works closely with other Tri-Valley Mayors to help strengthen the infrastructure of our region.

This year she traveled to Washington D.C. with fellow mayors from Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton to advocate on behalf of the Tri-Valley region to increase jobs and business development through the IGATE program, secure funding of important transportation projects, and discuss pending bills related to public safety and community access channels . They met with Congressmen George Miller, Jerry McNerny and Pete Stark, and with representatives from Sen. Barbara Boxer, Sen. Diane Feinstein and Rep. Garamendi's offices. They also met with officials in the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, Economic Development Administration, Department of Transportation, and White House staff.

In 2008 she and other mayors met with US Senators Boxer, Feinstein and US House of Representatives Jerry McNerny and Ellen Tauscher to secure Federal funding for important projects such as: I-680 and I-580 improvements and the East Bay Regional Communications System which allows first responders to communicate in a disaster.

DANVILLE TOWN COUNCIL Candace has served on the Danville Town Council since 2003 when she was appointed to fill a vacancy. In 2004 and 2008 she was elected to four year terms. If successful in this election, the completion of her term as Mayor and on the Town Council will coincide with her assuming office as Supervisor for District 2. While serving on the Danville Town Council, Candace has also served on the following boards, commissions and committees:

Central Contra Costa County Transit Authority (County Connection) Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority Contra Costa County Transportation Authority (Alternate) Danville Area Chamber of Commerce Discover Danville Association Dougherty Valley Oversight Committee Liaison to Arts Commission; Heritage Resource Commission; Design Review Board; Parks Commission, Planning Commission; Oak Hill Park Building Planning Committee San Ramon Valley Emergency Preparedness Citizen Corps Council Southwest Area Transportation Committee Street Smarts Advisory Committee Town Finance Committee Town-School District Liaison Committee Traffix School Bus Program Director (Alternate) Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Committee Tri-Valley Transportation Council Veteran's Memorial Building Design Committee MORGAN HILL CITY COUNCIL Mayor Andersen served on the Morgan Hill City Council from January 1993-December 1994. She was appointed to fill the remainder of a council member's term. When it came time to run for her seat in Morgan Hill, her husband Phil was presented with a job opportunity, which would bring their family back to Danville.

While serving on the Morgan Hill City Council, she received awards for her work in improving parks, starting a City-wide arboretum, implementing a graffiti eradication program, and for supporting historic preservation.

Candace served on Morgan Hill's Legal Oversight Committee, Measure P Implementation Committee, Public Television Advisory Committee, and Gang Task Force Steering Committee.

She also worked on regional issues in Santa Clara County, serving on Transportation, Legislative, Housing and Community Development Committees.

Prior to her appointment to the Morgan Hill City Council Candace served on the Morgan Hill Parks and Recreation Commission and the Rent Stabilization (Mobile Home Park) Commission.

ATTORNEY LICENSED TO PRACTICE LAW IN CALIFORNIA AND HAWAII Candace has put her career as an attorney on hold to raise her family and serve the community. She keeps her California license to practice law active and furthers her training with Continuing Legal Education courses.

She began her legal career as an Appellate Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in her hometown of Honolulu, arguing criminal appeals (prosecuting criminals) before the Hawaii State Supreme Court and the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals.

After moving to California Candace worked for a small law firm in Morgan Hill. Her practice included cases related to zoning and land use.

Candace received her Juris Doctorate (Law Degree) from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1985. She also studied law at the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii.

B.A. IN PUBLIC POLICY Candace received of Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy (Political Science) from Brigham Young University in 1982

HIGH SCHOOL Candace attended Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, from K-12, graduating in 1978.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER Along with her many Town Council responsibilities and assignments, Candace also volunteers her time for other organizations in the community:

Honorary Service Award Recipient from the San Ramon Valley Council of PTA's (2007) Outstanding Service Award Recipient from the Charlotte Wood PTA (2004) San Ramon Valley Unified School District Legislative Committee Member (2002-2009) Classroom Volunteer Sycamore Valley Elementary School (1995-2009) Sycamore Valley Elementary School Site Committee (1996-1999) Girl Scout, Boy Scout, and Cub Scout volunteer (1993-Present) Volunteer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Public Affairs (Community Outreach), pianist, chorister, choir member, teacher, and youth leader.

ROOTS IN THE COMMUNITY Mayor Andersen was born in Washington D.C. and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She first came to Danville in 1983 to meet her husband's family. She is married to attorney Philip M. Andersen, who grew up in Alamo and Danville, and graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1974. His family arrived in Alamo in 1969. Candace and Phil lived in Honolulu and Morgan Hill before returning to Danville in 1995. They are the parents of six children ranging in age from 14 to 26.
