General Plan for the future of our CountryBy Kevin E. DownsCandidate for US Representative; Pennsylvania Congressional District; District 4; Republican Party | |

Listed below is an overview of the items I intend to sponsor or be involved with during my first two years in Congress.1. Energy independence + We need to stop relying on oil from foreign countries that simply do not like the United States. Our economy would start to grow if we started to drill on more Federal land, drill offshore, approve the Keystone Pipeline, expand natural gas drilling, build more oil refineries, and build Nuclear power plants. The democrats do not seem to realize every race has a starting line. They have not even allowed Americans to take the field. 2. Overhaul the tax code + We need to have a flatter fairer tax. We have to stop loop holes for the wealthy and at the same time make sure the 50% of Americans paying no tax have a shared responsibility. We should lower the corporate tax rate to American companies doing business within America. 3. Repeal of Obama Care + We should not only repeal Obama Care, but rather introduce sweeping reform of our healthcare. The United States of American has the best healthcare in the world. We simply have to make it more cost effective. It starts with tort reform and ends with opening up health insurance across state lines. Competition between health insurance companies, similar to car insurance, would reduce costs for employees and employers. 4. Give the power back to the states - 40% of Pennsylvania's 27 billion budget is driven by Federal mandates for entitlement programs. The Federal government mandates states have to provide these programs, but does not provide the funding. 5. Balanced Budget Amendment + The Democrat led Senate has not produced a budget in 3 ½ years. How can you know where you are going if you have no plan? I believe it is the Congress, Senate and the President's number one responsibility to pass a balanced budget. If they are unable to complete that task, they should not be paid. I would propose to sponsor that legislation. |
