End School Property Taxes

By Anne M. Chapman, M

Candidate for State Representative; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives; District 31; Republican Party

This information is provided by the candidate
Our current method of funding schools is antiquated and needs to be change especially in light of the current economy.
6. I support House Bill 1976 which will eliminate all property taxes and nuisance taxes and fund our schools in a more equitable and fair way based on ability to pay and encompasing everyone in the state as well as visitor/consumers - thus eliminating the centuries old method of taxing our homes. This is a burden to everyone especially our seniors on fixed incomes, and families of modest means. In our current economy, where people have lost their jobs, they are struggling with the decision whether to feed their children or pay their property taxes. The County should not have a virtual lien on our property every year until we pay our property taxes. We should own our properties without the threat of the sheriff selling it out from under us as is the growing situation with our seniors on fixed incomes.

As well, I support school vouchers, as parents should have the right to have their childre educated in the way that they see fit.
