Public SafetyBy John Robert WatkinsCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Long Beach; District 4 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Crime is on the rise. In Long Beach alone, there were 12,900 property crimes in 2011. Due to economics, the early release of prisioners and high unemployment, we have to do a better job policing our city.Public safety will always be one of my priorities. In the early 90s, I was asked to paint the Vision Statement of the Long Beach Police Department on a few walls throughout the city. gThe residents have the right to feel safe within the city they reside.h I believed in that statement then and I continue to believe and support it today. Public Safety is not just LAw Enforcement. It is our Fire Department, Lifeguards, Public Works, and all the entities which allow our city to function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These departments are an integral part of keeping our City safe and running efficiently. Public safety also goes hand in hand with education. We must provide a safe environment for teachers and administrators to instruct our children. |
