Local government is the closest that the average person gets to making a difference for their fellow citizens. City office holders are the most accessible to their citizens and have a lot of influence over the day to day lives of their constituents.
Law enforcement, fire protection, street maintenance, water and wastewater are all controlled at the local level. Zoning, planning and other similar functions are controlled at the local level.
Councilpersons are able to assist the residents with issues involving city control and while the resident does not always feel satisfied, at least they have the opportunity to put their problem forward to their representatives unlike state and federal officials.
I have always been a caretaker type person whether serving as an athletic manager and trainer, an event organizer or a civic leader. It's my town and I have every intention to continue to do the best for my citizens. There may be others who care about Harrison as much as I do, but nobody cares more.
