1. After 30 years with the same Mayor, what changes would you bring as a new leader for Newark?
Mayor Dave Smith's retirement puts Newark and it's voters at a crossroads -- do we continue with the status quo or do we use this opportunity to enhance and strengthen our beloved city at the local, regional, state and federal level.I believe we should take this opportunity to strengthen Newark.
As Mayor, I will ensure Newark's long-term sustainability while protecting our unique neighborhoods and the excellent quality of life its residents enjoy.
My proven track record of providing fiscal accountability and my commitment to securing federal, state and regional dollars by leveraging nearly 20 years of experience, will support and enhance our city.
I will; uphold a high level of public safety; maintain and enhance our business friendly environment to encourage economic development and job creation;increase communication with community members; and, continue to provide a high quality of life for residents of all ages, while living within our means.
2. Do you think Newark needs upper end housing and a golf course? Do you think Areas 3 and 4 would be good places for this development?
When the development of housing in Areas 3 and 4 came before the City Council, I voted in favor of the proposal. A component of the proposal was the donation of 60 acres of land for municipal use, 60 acres is not enough land for a golf course. The use of the donated land will be determined by a future council.3. If you are elected will you encourage the Council to either schedule Brown Act Training or participate in one if it is offered by another agency?
Yes, absolutely.
