I'm here because I care deeply about advocating for all Dobbs Ferry children. Regardless of election outcome, I hope to raise awareness and constructive involvement in our district. It is not in my nature to stand by and watch something I care about struggle without working to help. I feel compelled to roll up my sleeves, think creatively and work collaboratively to find solutions. Though there's always need for refinement, we have much to preserve: our board "works", our district staff works well with each other; our schools are continuously improving and we have tremendous power in parent involvement. Unfortunately, our community "team" has been fraying at the edges. Negative reactions to specific problems - some real and some perceived - pose an increasing threat to optimal functioning of our schools... and thus to our students. These types of difficulties are plaguing school districts across the nation but the reality is that our schools work and I believe we can rise above our differences to tackle the real work at hand. Guided by the educational experts we have put in place, we must focus constructively on implementation, support and assessment of research-based, data-driven, child-centered programming that is cost-effective and works for every child... the complex, labor-intensive work of public education to nurture, challenge and inspire each of our 1450 students to reach their highest potential. We must do this with utmost fiscal responsibility continuing strategic use of resources and top budgeting efficiency in our schools; expanding shared services and cooperative programming; and taking targeted legislative action for increased local control. Though informed by my experience as a highly-involved parent, this is a place for rising above "my" to focus on "our." Serving on our Board of Education is where I can most effectively advocate for all Dobbs Ferry children so that is where I hope to serve. I have great hope for what we can accomplish together. Our kids & community need you! Please vote budget & board Tuesday, May 17 and please stay involved - thank you! |
