I bring Stability and Life Experiences to the Office
I was raised and educated in Italy, born in Rome during World War II. Seeing lines of people standing, trying to get a donated bowl of soup for lunch was something that left a mark.
As a young man I had the dream of going to America. For me America was more than a place on the map; it represented opportunity; the opportunity to strive for the American Dream. It was the ability to work for myself and attain the rewards that can come from hard work and sacrifice.
As a business owner I had the opportunity to work hard, invest my time and money and succeed. I had to risk and like all business owners, face the possibility of failure.
Now, what does this have to do with my vision for the district? My response is everything. In every area of the district the same challenges are being faced by the business community. From high and unfair Gross Receipts Taxes, to a permitting process filled with Red Tape and road blocks; Los Angeles is just plain not business friendly.
As a result, the tax revenue generated by these businesses is on a declining scale. From Foothill Blvd to Ventura Blvd, Commerce to Coldwater Canyon, empty store fronts stand as symbols of lost revenue. Revenue needed to keep parks and libraries open, Fire Stations fully manned and operational, Streets paved and sidewalks in good repair.
My vision is of a community comprised of many facets, from business, to education; one in which the common good is served. Working together to succeed, generate revenue, providing the services needed and to maintain a Quality of Life which serves and sustains the diversity of the District.
This can be attained by working together, with a Council Staff with ties to the community, knowledge of the area and a track record of service. By supporting the Community Groups which also have a track record of service and success.
As the councilmember for the District, my life experiences, work ethic and sense of fairness will not only serve me well, but also the members of the community.
General statements yes, but no less important if we are to address the challenges facing us as a Community and as a City.
The residents of City Council District 2 have my commitment to be Fair, Just and Respectful.
I bring Stability and Life Experiences to the Office and to the Challenges facing us all.
