Questions & Answers

1. How will you prioritize the budget choices the Legislature must make to align the state’s income and spending, and address the need for fair revenue sources that are sufficient for state and local government services?

First thing I would do is a complete review of all California Department of XXXX. California has too many "Departments of". It's time to review and remove many of these wasteful departments. I would not raise taxes one dime until all of the waste has been removed.

2. What proposals, if any, do you support to fix the budget process? What other types of changes or reforms, if any, do you think are important to make our state government function more effectively?

Force legislature to excuse themselves from discussing or voting on issues directly affecting a campaign contributor. Many cities already have "pay to play" laws that prohibit bribing the representative. It's time the State Legislature played by the same rules.

3. Many members of the Legislature say that education is a high priority for the state. Yet fees for public higher education have gone up dramatically and funding has been cut. What is your vision for California’s higher education future, and how do you propose to get there?

California has one of the best systems of higher education. That education is not, and should not be free. California can cut waste in many areas, including the CSU and UC systems which will keep costs and tuition down.

4. What other major issues do you think the Legislature must address in 2011? What are your priorities?

Top priority is the out of control "California Board of XXX". From the Board of Equalization, the Air Quality Board, and the Coastal Board, these entities have taken over the job of Legislation, Executive, and Judicial Branches. They answer to no-one, have complete authority, and are highly destructive to California. It's time to bring some control back to the process. Second priority is getting the budget passed on time.
