Shall the ordinance amending El Segundo Municipal Code Chapter 3-7 to temporarily increase the Utility User Taxes by 1% to fund general municipal services including, without limitation, police protection and crime suppression services, fire prevention and suppression services, and park and recreation facilities and services be adopted?
UUT Category...............Current Rate............New Rate Revenues from the UUT + approximately $5.3 million in fiscal year 2008-2009 + can only be used for the City's general governmental purposes. Publicly available documents estimate that Measure O would annually provide the city of El Segundo with approximately $1,970,000 of additional revenue. The tax cannot be increased in the future without voter approval. And, the tax increase proposed by Measure O would be automatically rescinded on June 1, 2013. Thereafter, the UUT would revert back to its current rate. To be adopted, Measure O must be approved by a simple majority of the voters in the city of El Segundo. A "yes" vote on Measure O favors the Measure. A "no" vote on Measure O opposes the Measure.

Arguments For Measure O |
Your entire City Council supports Measure O and we urge you to vote yes.
Residents of El Segundo are not subject to this tax and would not be taxed if Measure O passes. Measure O would only increase the Business utility users tax by 1%. Representatives of the city council went to small and large business and the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce, which represents a large cross section of the business community, and presented the tax increase and rationale behind it. There has been no opposition by those businesses or the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce. In fact, many businesses, large and small, along with the El Segundo Chamber of Commerce made public statements in support of Measure O to the City Council at the meeting in which it was debated and discussed. The outcome of that public meeting was unanimous support of Measure O by all five members of the El Segundo City Council. Each Councilmember has signed this notice in favor of Measure O in order to address budget constraints the city is facing with the support of local business and without raising taxes on residents. We urge you to vote yes on Measure O to help the financial health of El Segundo. Thank you for your support.
