PERSONAL STATEMENT

These are challenging times for public schools, and districts need board members to ask the tough questions and make the tough decisions. They need board members who do their research, listen to the full range of perspectives and draw conclusions impartially.

As a newspaper editor, corporate manager and business owner, I have proven experience doing all these things.

After graduating from Stanford University, I spent nearly 17 years as a reporter/editor for a large daily newspaper before moving to Paradise and becoming editor-in-chief of the CN&R.

I am now a columnist and member of the Editorial Board of the Paradise Post, along with running my own business, Idea Cultivators.

Our community matters to me -- I am a Paradise Rotarian, and I chair the board of the Civic Pioneers Institute, a nonprofit that develops leaders in the North State.

Our children and schools matter to me -- I am the husband of a pediatrician, son and brother of educators, and uncle of a Paradise elementary student (plus a preschooler-to-be). I have been a Big Brother with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butte County, a high school volleyball coach, and a mentor to local youth.

I have broad-based support across the community, with endorsements from PUSD teachers and the Paradise Post as well as individuals including Town Councilman Steve "Woody" Culleton, PRPD Director Bob DiPietro and Butte County Supervisor Maureen Kirk, among many others.

As a PUSD Trustee, I will represent the public interest in our public schools. I would appreciate your support.
