District strengths. Setting district policy, not micro-managing. Doing my homework.PUSD has several strengths. The certificated and classified staff who have continued to teach the student, provide support and maintain the facilities are the greatest resource the district has. They have continued to try to perform their duties regardless of the current economic situation within the state and nation wide. We also have many dedicated parents who give their time, energy and resources to keep a learning environment. We have a community that supports public education at all levels. It is my opinion and observation having worked for Thermalito Union School District that the role of a board member is one of fiscal oversight and the assuring that the district is compliant with state and federal rules regarding funding, curriculum, health and safety. The role is to set district policy, not micro-manage. To be successful, if elected, I would request a meeting with TAP leadership to discuss what they perceive as district issues. I will find out from TAP, the classified staff, and parents what they feel the district is doing well, where they feel changes could be made, and if there are issues that are not apparent. I will do my homework. I have already obtained the full budget and a complete set of all job descriptions within the district. I am studying these for a better understanding of the district make up. I will listen, ask many and potentially very difficult questions, gain as complete an understanding of the district and the issues as possible. I will have an open door policy so that I am available to learn as much as quickly as possible. |
